Contact us to book your child's interview!

All new applicants must be interviewed in order to register. It is important to us to ensure we can meet your child's needs and that he or she also meets the requirements to study our programs.   Please contact us to book your child's interview so we can determine the most suitable program. We gauge proficiency for both ESL (English as a Second Language) and FSL (French as a Second Language) students using the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).

Once we have assessed your child's level, we will do our best to accommodate the day of your choice. Otherwise, we can place your child on our waiting list.

CEFR is an assessment tool which provides a shared guide for educators by establishing clearly defined outcomes for each level of language learning with respect to reading, writing, listening and speaking. Its use facilitates program design, delivery and achievement. The links to the various CEFR levels below provide information in French for high school students in the Extended French and French Immersion programs. Students may review  the objectives and skills for each of the  CEFR levels -with respect to French- by clicking on the levels below. Consultation and assessment are free.

Please note that an A-  is below A1.  Derived from the CEFR, It is what LYLI uses to indicate that a student possesses a foundation of  basic "classroom" French, being able to briefly introduce themselves, express the date and use simple words for social interaction such as hello, how are you, please, thank you and good-bye. A is used to indicate that the student has increased his/her range of basic vocabulary but has still not met the criteria of A1.1 on the CEFR.

***If your child plans to work, study, or live in France, we recommend the DELF/DALF tests (http://www.defldalf.fr/) be taken later on to obtain an official validation of his or her French language ability. LYLI’S courses provide thorough preparation to this end.

Students are given a relevant performance task at the end of each course so they can see how far they have progressed! Upon request, LYLI can also provide an i-PAC (Individualized Performance & Assessment Card) for an additional fee, using our own assessment tool, C.A.F.É.S.
